Ollantaytambo and the Sacred Valley
The Sacred Valley is a lush farming area which was created by the Incas – they actually added all the soil, created hill ledges and straightened the river!
We visited two sites in the area. The first was a large Inca settlement in Pisac which gave up an opportunity to do lots of walking practise for our impending trail. The second was a charity project where we were shown how textiles are traditionally made in the area – we fed the llamas and alpacas who kindly donated their wool, and Soph had a chance to try spinning yarn, before buying some handmade leg warmers.
Our trip ended in Ollantaytambo, our last stop before our hike. We visited another Inca site, (probably the last stronghold before the Spanish Invasion), and purchased our walking sticks!
