Sucre the White City

Sucre was very different to the other Bolivian cities we have visited, it felt almost Mediterranean (thanks to the Spanish). The sun shines brightly, and the buildings are painted white, with terracotta roof tiles.

We took a horseback ride to the outskirts, enjoying clear views of the city and castle, and the coolness of a small forest. Sophie got the smallest horse, and we discovered olly is allergic to horses!

On the outskirts of the city, were visited a recently discovered “wall” of dinosaur footprints. They were captured because the footprints were created at the end of a wet season in the lake (soft ground) and were preserved by a layer of compact dust. The footprints ended up turning through 90° during the formation of the Andies.

We were staying near the main square which was a hub for shops, bars and restaurants. Our group made the most of it, with some funny nights out, including full on fancy dress and salsa!

We quickly discovered the best chocolate shop, seemingly in Bolivia, and also an ice cream shop worth investing in 🙂
