Ilha Grande
Ilha Grande is reached by a gentle 1 hour tug boat ride. The island only has one small town, with small shops, restaurants and bars, but no ATM. It felt feels fairly remote and there is a definite emphasis on relaxing and leaving any stress back on the mainland.
We only had one full day on the island which was a shame. We would have gladly stayed for at least a week! There are several walks and plenty of tasty food to be had! We did one walk which crosses the island to one of the country’s best beaches, Lopez Mendes. The powdery sand was possibly the softest we’ve ever felt, and the beaches along the walk were gorgeous too. We also sampled some of the tasty seafood dishes on offer – Macqueca (a stew) and Bobo (fish in a coconut creamy sauce).
