Auckland – A rainy start in New Zealand
The rain which greeted us on our arrival to Auckland can only be described as torrential! We decided to be brave and headed out in it, and we were quickly rewarded with a scrumptious fishy brunch at the dock’s fishmarket, which was a sign of things to come… Auckland seemed to be full of arty stores and modern bistro-type restaurants. We stayed in the Posenby area which had a fantastic ‘market’ which was a hub for great food and interior design stores.
The city is not so big and we managed to see a lot of it on foot. However, we did hire bikes to visit a bit further afield and to check out the local beaches.
We also spent a couple of afternoons in the Auckland museum which was really good. It was a bit like the Natural History and V&A museums combined, with lots of Maori craftsmanship, and displays of all the indigenous wildlife (all birds and fish).
