Chilled out India- Kerala

After reuniting with Sophie’s parents and enjoying a few days in Delhi (post to follow), the four of us hopped on a plane southwards to the hot beaches of Kerala.

This region of India is tropical and laid back. We stayed at a resort filled with lush gardens and could see the sea from our verandas! There was also an ayurveda clinic, where we indulged in super oily massages, a medicinal garden, a vegetable plot, butterfly garden and cows on lawnmowing duty. Along with the massages, we got into the relaxing with morning yoga sessions and some beach lounging.

A short journey to the local town of Allepey offered lots of scenes of daily life – candlelit temple parades, dancing, colour everywhere, and of course, crazy driving!

The highlight of the visit, and the biggest reason to come to the area, was cruising along the backwaters. The old canal system draws so much life, we were able to see farming, washing and parties, and plenty of wildlife including gorgeous kingfishers. We stopped to buy giant prawns for our wonderful lunch, and this was also the moment (the first of many moments), when Olly felt like a film star, with a large group of men clamouring to have their photo taken with him!
