Pokhara

Pokhara is a lakeside town situated near the Annapurna range, where we would be trekking. It seemed a quiet town to leave, but morphed into a hub of civilisation upon our return from the quiet mountains.

Like all cities in Nepal, there were daily power cuts, which put half the main street into darkness, with shop owners continuing by candlelight. There was also lukewarm “hot” water, poor roads and iffy internet. Yet we got used to it, and the people we met were so friendly, happy and content.

Each night we made sure we were by the lake to watch the sunset. Still lake waters are always so calming aren’t they? The lakeside was busy all day however, many people don’t have running water or washing machines, so laundry was carried there, and you could often see it drying strung between the trees.

Our highlights were a lake view lunch at s posh resort which once hosted Price Charles, and a boat ride and hike to the Peace Pagoda – the views were great.
