Chiang Mai
We entered Chiang Mai by night train, where we had a private bunk room, the best train food so far and a lovely sunrise view of the rice fields outside the city.
The walled city is charming, and we explored it by foot and bike. It is filled with temples, vegetarian cafés and quaint second hand book stores – a perfect place to relax and watch the world go by. It is also a city of learning, home to a university and many schools… Including a massage school! We are now fully trained to give a Thai face/beck/neck/shoulder massage, a life skill!
We ventured further afield by bike, exploring the peaceful ancient city with its winding streets and fluttering banners, and the Huay Tung Tuao lake, where we dined in a little hut overhanging the lake.
We were quite smitten with Chiang Mai and a little sad to leave so soon. We are glad we extended our time there in order to see the best night market of our trip, and also take a day trip to see some of Soph’s animal friends… See the next post!
