A day in Hué

Hué is famed for it’s citadel. It is the midpoint of Vietnam, and is surrounded by impressive mountains.

With just one full day, we decided to bike it. We took our bikes on a dragon boat and headed up the perfume river, stopping a few times on the way up, before working our way back to the city with a few phrases scribbled down by a Vietnamese guide in case we got lost. To call it a tour would be extremely generous, but that is what it was sold to us as!

The boat trip was a great way to see some everyday life, with laden boats and various fishing techniques, all seemingly unique to the area.

We visited some large tomb grounds of previous emperors, and explored within the walls of the old citadel. So much was destroyed in the wars, but some parts have been restored to show just how great the emperors city was at the time it was used.
