Glastonbury Festival 2016
After visiting Glastonbury in 2014, we were both excited and apprehensive about going again – the festival is amazing, no doubt, but it can be hard work. However, this year I have to say I truly enjoyed every bit of it. Perhaps I’ve chilled out, maybe I just knew what to expect, or has my mud tolerance increased? Who knows.
We arrived early on Wednesday morning to secure our usual camping spot. It was a tough trek from the car as this year there was mud already awaiting us. After 4/5 hours, all our group had arrived, all the tents were set up and we were free to start our exploring … The Glastonbury site is huge, it’s really impossible to spend a decent amount of time in every field. Over the 5 days, I racked up about 125,000 steps, and I still missed many stages and tents!
Activity-wise, we learnt from last year’s Wilderness Festival and signed up to classes quickly before they were booked up. I really enjoyed designing and casting a silver pendant using cuttlefish, and found the copper class very relaxing, with professional results.
It’s a great festival for foodies like us, with so much to choose from. We also noticed a few fresh fruit stalls which seemed to be a welcome new addition. My favourites this year were the falafel burgers in the green crafts field, Shaken Udder milkshakes and my favourite – Buddha Bowls.
I can’t complete this post without mentioning the music. Glastonbury is a special festival in the way that you could easily fill 5 days without going to see any music at all – there are circus acts, comedy tents, cinemas, massages, talks, crafts and hundreds of other activities vying for your attention. But it also attracts hundreds of talented musical acts, big and small. For me, Adele and Coldplay were fantastic headliners, they really didn’t disappoint. Other great acts I saw included Years & Years, Tom Odell and Gregory Porter, as well as many others on the smaller stages.
