Fatehpur Sikri
Halfway through a misty drive from Agra to Jaipur, we stopped at Fatehpur Sikri, an old fort complex which was deserted many years ago. We took a tuk tuk to the entrance, and had a guide to show us around and talk us through its story.
In the morning mist, Fatehpur Sikri really had a very special and mysterious feel to it. The grounds were huge, and there are still a lot being uncovered by archeologists and rummaging dogs! The most memorable areas were the city gates, the imposing mosque and the central square area (a popular Bollywood film set). It is said that a holy man lived there once who granted the king his wish of a son, so the temple is a big focus, with its ornate shrine.
